About Us

Kinetic Ukes is a community of ukulele players in the north-central part of Connecticut. The founders’ goal was simple - to provide a fun community for all those who play or would like to learn to play the ukulele. We are of every ability level and every age group - from 10 to 110, everyone is welcome. We hold a monthly Uke Hoot where we get together and play through that month’s songbook. Uke Hoots are led by members of the Kinetic Ukes Ensemble. Players participate at whatever level they feel comfortable. Some of us like to play riffs and solo, some prefer to simply strum the chords, while others may join their voices in harmonies. Our reason for being is to sing and play our ukuleles together and HAVE FUN!

Kinetic Ukes Ensemble

The Kinetic Ukes Ensemble is the performance arm of Kinetic Ukes. Led by music director, Jim Lenn, they deliver a fun, relaxing vibe to timeless songs, putting a smile on everyone’s face - performers and audience members alike. Following Duke Ellington’s wisdom - “if it sounds good, it IS good” - Kinetic Ukes performs joyful tunes in a variety of genres from classic ukulele songs to modern country, blues and rock. Popular tunes from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s make up the core repertoire, with true oldies (1920’s) and more contemporary songs sprinkled in here and there.

Membership in the ensemble is by invitation only. If you are interested in joining, please contact us.

Check the calendar for our next get together.

Jim grew up in southern California during the 60’s.  After starting music at the age of eight and hearing The Beatles at 12, he knew music would play a big part in his life. Jim relocated to the East Coast in 1998 and was a founding member of the popular folk/gospel group, East of Nashville. After completing a solo album in 2005, he held down the drummer’s chair with the popular country group, The Truckstop Troubadours. Jim now leads both the New England Ukulele Ensemble and the Kinetic Ukes, and continues to front the group Snapback, who have opened for the Hartford Symphony Orchestra.
